Leadership
Dr. Espinoza is an internationally recognized internist/geriatrician and clinical investigator with expertise in physical frailty, sarcopenia, and geroscience-guided clinical trials of interventions to improve healthspan with aging. Her ongoing NIA-funded clinical trial will determine the effect of metformin for frailty prevention in older adults with oral glucose intolerance. She is an active clinician who provides care for older adults in outpatient and inpatient settings, and precepts medical students, residents, and fellows.
Born and raised in Mexico, Dr. Musi is an acclaimed physician-scientist whose research program in metabolic/endocrine gerontology is devoted to exploring the effects that aging has on numerous metabolic and cellular processes and its relevance to the pathogenesis of age-related diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and sarcopenia.
Dr. Gonzales’ research broadly focuses on identifying mechanisms and biomarkers of advanced age-related cognitive decline and dementia in effort to aid timely diagnosis, prevent progression and advance treatment discovery. She leads several geroscience-guided clinical trials of novel interventions for Alzheimer’s dementia. Her research leverages clinical neuropsychology, structural and functional neuroimaging and genomics.
